How To Get Your Book Published

Many people imagine seeing their name on the bookshelves in Borders or Barnes & Noble. They want people to be able to go on Amazon and pick up a copy of their masterpiece. Maybe they have an idea in their head for a novel that will blow people away, or for a non-fiction book that is sure to top the bestseller lists. Maybe they want to write a self-help book that will make a difference in people's lives, or maybe they even have a cookbook idea that will sell like hot-cakes (or better yet, like German chocolate cake). For everyone who dreams of seeing their book in stores, the journey begins the same way: with an idea, and with a notebook and pen, typewriter, or computer. The writing portion of the journey is usually lonely, long, and arduous. Once this portion of the journey ends, they are ready to celebrate! Furthermore, the writer wants everyone to read the book at last. So how does this happen? How do the words in the notebook become a book? How do the words make their way onto a bookshelf?

Well, actually, the end of the solo portion of the journey has not yet come. No matter what kind of book you have written, you need to spend hours (and hours and hours) editing your book before anyone can see it. Make sure you've cleaned up all spelling, grammar, and usage errors. You have to make sure that it all makes sense. You have to check the pace - is it too slow and boring, or is it too fast and confusing? Make sure people will actually enjoy reading it! It can be tough to fly solo for so much longer, but enjoy it while you have the chance. Once you complete this step, the door to world gets flung wide open!

At this point, it is time to find a literary agent. Although this might seem simple enough, you have to understand that most agents receive anywhere from 100 to 200 letters every week. And usually, they will only take on about two new clients each year! This necessitates that you learn the art of writing a query letter. Many different agents run websites to help with this step, teaching you the art of query letter writing.

Once you finally land an agent (and, of course, once you finish celebrating again), it is time for the toughest step of all: waiting. A whole bunch of waiting!

It's not easy to get your book into bookstores; in fact, writing the actual book might be the easiest part. But if you can have patience and persevere all the way to the finish line, you will achieve something great, something that you can be proud of the rest of your life.

Different Styles of Managers

Employees can be a difficult group for you to manage. Motivating each of these employees will need to be done differently. They also each respond to different management techniques. The management style you choose can be one of many. Some examples are the micromanager, Mr Cool, and the buddy. The most well rounded of all types of managing styles is the coach, even though each type has positives and negatives.

The coach doesn’t employ extreme management techniques like many of the others. Mr Cool only cares about his own image and the micromanager dissects every part of the day, to name a few examples. Coaches don't use either of these methods. Instead of doing what is best for them on a personal level, the coach will do what is in the best interest of the team. The coach also lets some day to day operations go unmanaged on their part. The coach gives responsibility and freedom to their employees for them to make educated choice.

One of the best traits of the coach is their ability to interact with each employee for growth. If a small task goes undone, they won't get on top of an employee for it. The coach will let this slip up go, but will use it as a coaching opportunity with the employee. This benefits the whole team in many ways. One way is the confidence employees will have. They will know that if there is something they fail to do, the coach will help them through it by teaching them why they failed. This creates a team environment since each employee feels like they are crucial to the success of everyone.

Coaches aren't the perfect type of manager. Their management style may not be harsh enough for some employees. Their are employees who simply can't respond well to coaching. Since they are so focused on the accomplishments of the team, the coach sometimes doesn't recognize successes of individuals. If there was one style that had to be picked, the coach would be a good one, but it is always the best practice to use a blend of styles to create one that works for you.

How To Maximize Your Christmas Budget

Buying Christmas presents is nothing more than simply "another something to have to do" for some people, while plenty of other people genuinely get a thrill out of shopping for and buying Christmas presents for others - but regardless of which side you fall on yourself, one thing that most people can generally agree on is this: It would be nice to be able to maximize that Christmas budget!

One thing to make sure you are aware of is the fact that shopping early is easier than shopping late; when you do your shopping early, you will not only be able to deal with less traffic, but you will also be able to find a larger selection at most of the stores you visit, and - most importantly - you will be far more likely to find great deals you can take advantage of, which will go a long way in maximizing the Christmas money you are spending.

Making presents for someone is another great idea for maximizing your Christmas budget; this does not exclude you from buying a present for the same person, but part of "maximizing" a Christmas budget is that you are able to give someone more presents (or even, that you are able to give someone presents that have even more meaning), without going beyond your budget, and one of the best ways to do this - whether it is the only present you are giving them or is instead just an add-on - is to give presents you have put time, thought, and effort into making.

And a lot of people will have someone on their shopping list who wants a particular "big-ticket" item, and rather than finding a way to do this within budget, they will go over-budget to purchase this item; if you are especially excited about purchasing a particular big-ticket item for someone, get someone else to cut your costs by going in on the gift with you!

You are supposed to be able to have a lot of fun with Christmas - and when you learn how to maximize the money you are spending around this time of year, it will be much more likely to be fun for you!

Writing A Job Resume That Works

One of your greatest tools when you are looking to land a job will be the job resume you send out to the prospective employers for whom you feel you might be a match, but one thing you will need to realize, when you are sending out a resume, is that there will be a lot of competition for any job for which you are applying, and in order to rise to the top amongst this competition, your resume will need to do more than simply list the jobs you have worked at before and the education you have accumulated, but will instead need to function as a tool that "sells" you to this employer!

The formatting of their resume is one thing that a lot of people neglect, as they never think about the fact that the way their resume looks will make a big difference in the way their resume is perceived; rather than simply using a "resume template" in Microsoft Word, look around for some creative ideas of how to make your resume stand out, and even consider hiring a resume expert who can help you to craft and create the perfect-looking resume.

Of course, once the prospective employer has given your resume a serious look based on the visual appeal of the resume itself, it will also be important that you give them something on which they can hang their hat by listing more than just your previous work, but by also listing your strengths and making it apparent that you just might be the right person for the job opening they have - creating a call to action with your resume, instead of simply giving them a dull piece of paper to read!

And finally, realize that just because you have come up with a great resume does not mean this is the resume you need to send out to each place to which you apply; if you are applying for a number of jobs, tailor your resume a bit to make sure it fits for each particular job, as this will increase the likelihood that you will appeal to one of them.

Getting hired can be difficult, but when you know how to craft a resume that works, it can be a whole lot easier - and by keeping these tips in mind, you will be well on your way to crafting a resume that works!

Exploring Yearly Goals To Strive Toward

Many people have a tendency to come up with "goals" that they want to accomplish at the start of each year, but once they have gone a couple weeks into the year, they completely forget about these goals, and instead go back to living their life exactly as they were living it before the new year began! On the other side of this, of course, are those people who realize that most of the people who set goals each year do nothing about them, and because of this realization, these people decide to set no goals for themselves; there is a middle ground, however, which is setting yearly goals that you can strive toward - and then knowing how to consistently strive toward them as well!

When it comes to setting goals, the first area where you are likely to take action is in work, and this is the area in which you are most likely to forget about your goals as well; when you set goals at work, you will want to make sure the goals are either measurable (that is, things you can track in a concrete manner), or that the goals are broken down in such a way that you can set measurable targets to achieve each month.

When it comes to the goals you set with your family, you are likely to come up with things that are somewhat vague and difficult to define, but the best way to get around this is to set your goals - as they pertain to your family - in such a way that they center around particular events to do together or time to spend together.

And when it comes to the goals you set in your personal life each year, you should try to identify areas in which you can constantly push to improve; although you may not be able to "track your progress" in these things, you will be able to make a conscious effort each day to improve in these areas, and in the long run, you will be able to look back and see how far you have come!

How To Design A Good Business Card

It will be important that you have a business card that you can keep on you at all times, regardless of what you do for a living - something that you can hand out to people when the need arises - but because of the fact that "having a business card" is important, a lot of people jump on this task right away, and they never quite take the time to figure out exactly what will go into making a business card that is effective; if you are wanting to design a business card for yourself, you will want to take a few minutes to understand exactly what will cause this business card to work well.

One mistake a lot of people make with their business card is that they work so hard to make it stand out, they fail to make it easy for people to figure out exactly what the business card is for; the number one job of your business card is that it lets people know what you do, so make sure this information (as well as any other important information - such as your name, and how to contact you!) is immediately apparent.

After you have made certain that your necessary information will stand out to anyone who looks at your business card (and only after you have done this!), you can move on to figuring out how you can make this business card catch the eye; one of the best ways to figure out how to make your business card catch the eye is to collect as many business cards as you can get your hands on, and to figure out which ones stand out to you more than others - and in this way, you will be able to determine what you want to do in order to make your business card stand out as well.

And it will be easy to find a lot of "great deals" on business cards, but if you are going to be handing out your business cards to anyone at all, you will want to make sure the card screams "quality" instead of screaming "cheap." It will be worth it to pay a little extra money to have your business card printed on good, quality stock, and it is certainly worth it to pay for printing that will be of the highest quality, as this will enable your business card to work for you in a much more effective manner!

Tips For Making The Most Of A Trip To New York City

New York City is one of the most popular tourist destinations for not only people from other countries, but for Americans as well; many people who travel to New York City, however, go without a specific plan that they want to follow, and this causes them to not get nearly as much out of their trip as they could. If you are going to be traveling to New York City for the first time sometime soon (or if you will be going there for a second or third time, but feel that you did not get the most out of your trip the first times you went), here are some things for you to keep in mind in order to make your trip to New York City as successful as you hope for it to be.

One of the most popular destinations when people visit New York City is Central Park, as Central Park is an absolutely gorgeous jewel of serenity and green right in the midst of one of the busiest cities in the world; because of the fact that Central Park is so popular with tourists, however, it is often packed with people – so if you want to experience Central Park to the fullest, make the effort to wake up early (around 6 or 7 in the morning), and get out to Central Park when the locals are the only other people out there.

Similar to Central Park, Times Square is another one of the most popular tourist destinations; while part of experiencing Times Square is certainly that you experience all the people, it will likely be much more enjoyable for you to experience all the people if you go on a night when it is not tremendously busy – so consider visiting Times Square on a weeknight instead of a weekend night, so that you can experience the full effect without getting worn out.

And you are likely to have a lot more fun when you visit New York City if you make the effort to go off the beaten path; try to visit restaurants, museums, and parts of the city that tourists rarely take the time to see, and you will feel like you got a whole lot more out of your trip than you would otherwise have gotten!
