How To Help Your Website Through Off-Site Factors
As far as search engine optimization goes, there are two main categories of things that influence the way in which search engines view your website: on-site factors, and off-site factors; of course, on-site factors are the things that you have direct control over - the things that are on your very own site - that will have a bearing in your search engine ranking, whereas off-site factors are the things that are less within the realm of your control, but one thing that will be important for you to realize about SEO is that you still can influence some of your off-site factors, even if you cannot control them completely! Backlinks (which is the term for the links from another site that point people to your site) have a big influence over your search engine ranking, and while you cannot always control how many links you receive or where your links come from, one thing you can do to influence your backlinks is reciprocal links - which is where you and another site decide to link to one another, in order to help both of you! Another method for creating backlinks (and for creating extra exposure) is using social media to share your site - and while this does not carry nearly as much weight as it used to (largely due to the fact that this aspect of SEO was abused when it was weighted more heavily), it will still give you a small boost, and what's more, this small boost will be come much bigger if you can get lots of others to link to your site as well! Finally, realize that you can link to your site from other sites of yours; of course, search engines are smart enough to realize when you are simply linking from one site of yours to another, but if you have built your sites to a place where they rank highly with search engines, you can get away with doing this every once in a while gaining a small boost in your search engine rankings as a result! Don't be fooled by the idea that "off-site" factors are out of your control; although you may not have as much influence over off-site factors as you do over on-site factors, there are still things you can do to help your off-site factors work for you!

Tips For Dealing With An Upset Customer In Person
If the job where you work rarely puts you in a position where you have to deal with customers - and where, if you do deal with customers, it is usually through email or over the phone - you will not have to worry about one of the things that is among the biggest concerns of people who deal with customers all the time: dealing with an upset customer in person! When it comes to dealing with an upset customer in person, it is not that you have necessarily done anything wrong that makes it such a frustration - but in fact, the fact that you have probably done nothing wrong heightens the frustration, as the customer will often treat you as though you have done something wrong; for this reason, knowing how deal with an upset customer in person can be extremely valuable, as it can lessen the strain these encounters put on you. First off, the customer will want to know that you are on their side, as they will assume you are "against them" if you are not "for them"; even if you do not necessarily agree with their complaint, you should always be understanding and create an image of agreement, as this will cause them to feel like you are their ally rather than their enemy - which, of course, will prevent them from turning their attack to you. Once the boundaries of the discussion have been established in such a way that they feel you are on their side, you can take the next step, which is offering solutions; the person with whom you are dealing may turn out to be inconsolable, but at least - in taking this approach - you can try to solve the problem on your own. When it comes to an upset customer, however, there will be times when you will not be able to solve the problem on your own; when this happens, remember that there is always someone above you to whom you can pass this customer along - which is what you will sometimes have to do, as many customers in this position simply remain upset until they get the satisfaction of talking to someone's "superior"!

Is Dilbert Okay For My Employees?
As a member of the business world, you are surely familiar with the Dilbert cartoon strip, and as a boss you probably even think a lot of the Dilbert strips are funny. After all, it is not as if any of these cartoons are poking fun at you, right? But then again, this firm self-assuredness can quickly evaporate when you start seeing Dilbert strips tacked up on cubicle walls. Of course, at first, it feels like you are just being overly paranoid to think that a cartoon strip could have any effect on the morale of your employees, but it is also difficult to shed from your mind those articles that talked about how Dilbert actually can have a negative effect on employees. And so you are forced to ask the question for yourself: Are Dilbert cartoons bad for the morale of your employees? First off all, one must remember that humor and laughter is good for morale. Undoubtedly, the fact that these cartoon strips make your employees laugh is a sign in the right direction. The issue, of course, is that many of these cartoons induce laughs by poking fun at corporate culture. And when you see a cartoon on someone's wall where the boss is made fun of, it is difficult to keep your mind from wandering to the question: Why did this employee post this particular cartoon on their wall? But the solution to the problem might be more complicated than just banning these comic strips. After all, you are sure to make employees think you are completely out of touch with the way they feel if you make such a brash decision. Instead of reacting brashly and ordering all Dilbert strips to be taken down from cubicle walls, a better approach is to look at the strips yourself. Many of these strips are funny because they poke fun at the way businesses are run; if your employees think that these strips are applicable enough to be tacked on their cubicle wall, the problem might not be with the strip itself. The problem might actually be with your company, and with the way it is run! While this discussion might seem somewhat trivial on the surface, it is important to note that many companies actually have banned Dilbert from cubicle walls. Rather than following this path and alienating employees, take the introspective approach: make sure that you are not making the mistakes portrayed in the strips, and improve morale by improving the way you run your business!
