Promote Your Business By Running Contests
Getting the name of your business out there so that it becomes familiar to people is one of the greatest struggles a small business owner faces. Of course, when it comes to getting your name out there, the best approach is to find a way for others to get your name out there for you. And running contests is the best way to get others to start spreading the word! When you run a contest, it becomes a lot like you are delegating the task of advertising to others, especially when you are able to structure a contest in such a way that people are encouraged to participate and are encouraged to spread the word about the contest as well. But in order to structure it in such a way that people are encouraged to spread the word, you need to make sure you understand what will entice people to spread the word.
The biggest thing, of course, when it comes to getting people to participate in the contest and spread the word is offering the winner something they will actually want! If you run a pizza parlor, you cannot just have "a free pizza" as the reward for a big contest. The bigger the prize, the greater the lengths people will go to in order to try to win it, which means you need to branch out a bit. Rather than thinking about it as "money out of your pocket," you should think of it as "advertising money." You also need to enable people to participate in the contest easily; make sure that the contest is structured in such a way that participation is easy. And in addition to your contest being easy to participate in, you should also structure it in such a way that participating in the contest automatically spreads the word about it! You will prevent yourself from growing if you remain small minded about your small business, and in this way you will put yourself in danger of disappearing. Instead, you should come up with contests that allow others to spread the word for you - branch out as much as you can, and see where this boldness takes you!

Marketing Plan Basics and Their Importance
Running a successful business can be difficult and the hardest part is often developing a marketing plan. Marketing is perhaps the most dynamic aspect of business ownership. Each business needs to develop a marketing plan unique to themselves. This means that developing a marketing plan of their own cannot be done with a pre-set plan by businesses. However there are guidelines that can be followed. On Target The Book on Marketing Plans is written by Tim Berry and Doug Wilson. Together they outline the features of marketing plans that are generally a part of each plan in one way or another. They wrote the book in order to help business owners accomplish their marketing goals through a well developed plan. Most business owners are not marketing experts and they took this into consideration when writing. Even if there are business owners out there that are marketing experts, this book can still offer some help. Familiarity with different marketing methods is usually held by most people. Online, print, and television advertising are three that everyone is familiar with. Berry and Wilson spend their time in a different area, on how to develop a plan that utilizes these areas to carry out marketing for a business. There are a few distinct aspects you can build around in order to be successful. Part of your success is built around how well you research your market. From there you can develop a strategy and settle on what tactics to use. You need to keep your budget in mind as well when you are doing all of this planning. Those who have been successful should be looked to for advice but many business owners don't do so. They started their own business so they could run it on their own. Yet those who are open to advice and guidance are generally the most successful. This is even more true when it comes to marketing. Let Berry and Wilson guide you through the process of developing a rock solid marketing plan!

Getting Hits On Your YouTube Videos
YouTube is used in a variety of ways by a variety of people, ranging from those who use it to try to get famous, to those who use it just for fun, to those who use it for business. Regardless of the way you yourself are using YouTube, it is not a very helpful tool if you are posting videos that do not get any hits. Especially if you are using YouTube in order to promote your business, it is important to know how to get hits on your video. Of course, in order for a YouTube video to get hits, it must be something that people will share with others. This is the magic of YouTube - the fact that you can post one video, and that people can spread the video around until it has been seen all over! If you want people to actually spread your video around, you need to make videos that are actually relevant. This does not meant that you need to be inauthentic or "hip" in some way in your videos; it just means your videos need to be something people care about! If you are using YouTube for your business, this can be as simple as making a video about a promotion, or making a video with a message to your customers.
Of course, it never hurts for a video to be funny, either, as funny videos tend to get spread around much more quickly. Short videos also tend to do better than long ones - and even though this can be difficult to stick to, it is also important. You can leave your viewers wanting more when you make a short video, while also giving them something that is easy to watch. And this is another one of the biggest keys: you should always leave your viewers wanting more, as this will cause them to watch it again. Those companies who have figured out how to use YouTube effectively have discovered that it can be a huge benefit. And once you start to follow these tips yourself, you will also be well on your way to employing YouTube effectively.

Tips For Making Customers Feel Welcome Without Making Them Feel Overwhelmed
One thing that will be important if you have your own company is that you make customers feel welcome when they walk in your store, but another thing that is important for you to realize is that it is also possible to make customers feel suffocated and overwhelmed; in order to increase the success of your business, it will be important that you have an understanding of the difference between making your customers feel comfortable and making them feel like they just want you to leave them alone! You should greet a customer the moment they enter the store, and then you find out if there is anything they need help with; this is important, as a lot of people will greet a customer, wait for them to walk around for a bit, and then ask if they need help with anything - but when you ask as an addendum to the greeting, the customer will feel as though you are being helpful, without feeling as though you are being overbearing. A "hovering body" is another thing that tends to bother customers; you will want your customers to know that you are available to help them in any way they need and to answer any questions they have, but it is much better (and much more effective) to let them know you are ready to help by wearing a smile and remaining open and available with your body language than by sticking close to them and waiting for them to ask you a question. And if the customer asks for your help, make sure you go over and above what is necessary in trying to help them, sticking with them as long as they need you - but not sticking with them any longer than they do! Being helpful to your customers without making them feel like you are bothering them, or like you are trying to "sell them something," can be a fine line to walk, but as you keep these tips in mind, you will keep getting better at it - and eventually you will have no problem at all making your customers feel comfortable and right at home!
