Writing A Winning Job Resume
The first part of you that a prospective employer will ever see is your job resume. If you are searching for a job in this depressed economy, with unemployment what it is, you will likely be competing against plenty of applicants. Because of this, it is important that you understand how to make your job resume stand out. The method of "listing your previous jobs and hoping for the best" used to work just fine. But you will be limiting yourself if you take this approach these days. Instead, you should learn how to make your resume stand out from those around it, creating the feeling with a prospective employer that they "have to" call you and bring you in for an interview. When writing your resume, it is extremely important to consider its design. Considering the prospective employer's perspective will help you understand why this is an important place to begin when writing your resume. The person holding your resume in their hands has likely been at their desk for hours, holding a bunch of resumes before yours, with a bunch more still waiting to be read. According to studies, each resume gets about 15-20 seconds of attention the first time through the pile. You will not make tired eyes feel kind toward you if you fill the resume with small font and big, blockish paragraphs. Instead, you should make sure you leave lots of white space on the paper, designing it with clear headings. When tired eyes come across such a resume, it will seem like an inviting escape; you might even get them to spend more than 15-20 seconds on their first glance! The next step that will set you apart from other applicants is your list of qualifications and accomplishments. Do not fabricate in this section, but do make sure you dig deep, uncovering things you might not have thought of off the top of your head. Include anything that might help the prospective employer make a decision! Finally, your qualifications section will be extremely important in selling you to a prospective employer. Use this section to set yourself high above your competition - those faceless others who might be applying. You should think of this section as an advertisement, which you are using to display all the reasons why they should "buy" you. Although searching for a job can be frightening in these uncertain times, knowing the steps to a winning resume can make it a whole lot easier.
