Successful Trade Show Presence
So, you are going to participate in a trade show, and now all you need to know is exactly how to be successful. While this might seem overwhelming at first, it is actually quite simple. If you understand this basic element of trade show success, you will have a valuable and enjoyable experience. What is this one element, this one thing you need to know in order to be successful? The one principle is actually really simple: At a trade show, regardless of what you are supposedly selling, you are actually selling YOU. That's right - you are selling yourself, so you have to know how to do this correctly. Before you even arrive at the trade show, the act of selling yourself begins. Before you arrive, you have to make sure that your confidence level is up, and that you are dressed in a manner that invites confidence. If you look sloppy, people will assume that your business is sloppy also. So take the time to double-check everything, making sure that you'll make the impression you want to make. As soon as you arrive at the trade show, remind yourself that people need to buy you before they will buy your product. Everyone is someone; this is important to remember, because this is the case whether the person looks like someone or not. Keep that smile on your face at all times, look approachable, and look like you want to talk. You never know where that next big client or customer will come from, so treat every single person as though they might be the one. When you are talking to people, make sure you remain engaged. Maintain eye contact as you talk to people, and in this way they will feel that you value what they have to say; and at all times, keep that smile on your face. As you talk to them, bring the conversation to areas of common ground. Lead the conversation to common points of interest, because people always feel more comfortable with topics they know. Finally, remember that - to the eyes of those at the trade show, those with whom you interact - you represent the entire company. You will be on your way to success by keeping this thought in mind and treating people accordingly. Just remember that the trade show is all about the people, and to the people it is all about you; if you remember this, the entire event becomes far less daunting. If people feel comfortable with and confident in you, they are sure to leave the trade show feeling comfortable with and confident in your business.
