Tips For Hiking The Appalachian Trail

If hiking is "not really your thing," the last thing you will want to think about doing is hiking the Appalachian Trail, but if you are the kind of person who loves hiking and spending weeks at a time outdoors (and if you have the flexibility to do so), hiking the Appalachian Trail can be as wonderful as a dream; of course - as is the case with any such trip - there are some things you will need to know before you get started, so here are some of those things you should know before hiking the Appalachian Trail.

The Appalachian Trail stretches from Maine to Georgia, covering about 2,000 miles, and the first thing you will need to know, before you can get started on this trip, is which direction you want to go - Maine to Georgia, or Georgia to Maine; also, realize that the trip will take about six months, so use this information to understand the weather you are likely to encounter on each leg of your journey.

You will also need to bring enough clothes for lots of different types of weather, as well as for lots of different types of terrain; realize, however, that it will also be important that you pack light enough to be able to carry this gear for the 2,000 miles you will be hiking!

And finally, be aware of the fact that you will need enough money with you for food and emergencies; because of the primitive nature of a trip such as this, people often forget that money will still be important, but you will not be able to complete this journey without enough money in your pack to help you take care of your needs.

You will need to still make a lot of preparations in order to hike the 2,000 miles of the Appalachian Trail (preparations that will include, of course, making sure you are in good shape for the journey!), but with these thoughts in mind, you will be all set to get started planning what is sure to be an adventure to remember.
