Any avid traveler has probably either taken a trip to San Francisco already or has planned to take a trip to San Francisco at some point. Of all the tourist destinations on the West Coast, San Francisco sits near the top, with beautiful architecture and a rich history and deep romanticism all wrapped together. But one thing about the Bay Area many people neglect is the beaches; these beaches might not be as well known as their counterparts to the south, but they are no less beautiful.
If you go to the western side of San Francisco, you will find a long, gorgeous beach that offers endless beautiful scenery; this is Ocean Beach. As this beach bumps right up against the city itself, it is very easy to visit on an afternoon or an evening. And make sure you bring what you will need for a bonfire if you visit this beach in the evening, as you will usually find the fire pits along Ocean Beach alight with fire and life. If you want to get out of the city a little ways, you can head south for some tremendous sun and surf. You will not only find spectacular views in such places as Half Moon Bay and Santa Cruz, but you will also find water that is a good bit warmer. You will also find plenty of wildlife in these places, and they are great for an escape for an afternoon or even a couple days. You can find areas that feel as though they are completely removed from cities altogether by simply taking a short drive to the north of San Francisco, over the Golden Gate Bridge. The beaches in Marin County and Point Reyes are gorgeous, and they are secluded enough to feel like they are truly out in the middle of nowhere. And yet, San Francisco will still be so close to you that you can see it if you just walk around the corner! Although the beaches of Southern California are warmer and more touristy than the beaches to the north, they can also be louder and much more crowded. The beaches near the Bay Area, on the other hand, are great for anyone who is looking for a different kind of escape, and they are great for anyone who is wanting something different from the city.http://bluerose.jamesloving.com/
