Why Eat Flax Seed Oil
There has been a health push for people to eat more omega fatty acids. You can eat fish and take fish oil pills, but another option is looking at flax seed. Flax seeds create an oil known as flax seed / linseed oil. Linseed oil has been used for many years for linoleum flooring, paints, and furniture polish, and now more recently we are finding it's health benefits. Though it technically isn't a grain it can be used similar to one. Flax can be ground into flour or left whole for use in whole grain bread. Whole flax seeds can be kept around for months keeping their nutritional integrity. Ground flax is really only good for a short amount of time because the oils in the seed can go rancid quickly. So having a grain mill and making your own flour may be the best option for optimal nutrition. Flax has a high protein compared to wheat and is higher in omega 3 fatty acid. Omega fatty acids are incredibly important for our body. It is believe that omega 3 helps to fight against cancer, help to protect our hearts, and overall aiding of our health. You can learn more about the health benefits of flax by reading The Healing Power Of Flax. This book makes some strong cases for the flax seed health benefits. If you don’t relish the idea of having to keep a grain mill and flax seed around your house there are plenty of flax seed supplements that you can purchase. Or you can easily find pre ground flax seed also but this should be stored in the refrigerator to keep the oils from going rancid as quickly as they will if they are stored in the cupboard.
